1. Be sure to apply sunscreen
We’ve all heard the myth that people of color don’t need sunscreen because the melanin in our skin protects us from the sun’s uv radiation. That is in fact a myth and is very false. Sunscreen should always be a part of everyone’s skin care regime. Limited exposure to the sun can be beneficial to melanated skin as the sun helps our bodies to produce vitamin D which in turn helps to strengthen bones and our immune system. However people of color should also wear sunscreen to limit the risk of developing skin cancers. Some of the ingredients in BRWN Beauty’s “Coco Kisses” collection have spf protection that range from 6-10. The summer collection is on the horizon and it boasts protection of at least 30 spf.
2. Know what you’re putting on your skin
Consumers are more label savvy than they’ve ever been before. People are demanding better quality products that contain naturally derived ingredients that are also organic. Do we actually know what we’re putting on our skin? Our skin is our largest organ and essentially what we put on our skin get’s absorbed into our bloodstream. I don’t know about you but I’m only interested in putting the best in my body. Turning to brands like BRWN Beauty you can rest assured knowing that your ingredients come from the best sources and they make their labels very easy to read so that you know exactly what’s in your products.
3. Always moisturize
Always, always, always moisturize! Did we mention always moisturize? The best thing you can do for your skin is to seal in the moisture. It will definitely reciprocate the love. After washing with the creamy coco kisses body wash you can seal in the moisture with the lotion to match. Keeping your skin moisturized with a moisturizer packed full of vitamins and healthy oils you’re sure to have glowing, amazing skin. It wouldn’t hurt to also reapply your moisturizer midway throughout the day as sometimes our skin becomes extremely thirsty and tend to dry out. Don’t be afraid to whip out your creamy lotion and re-apply.
4. Go natural and organic as much as possible
Natural and organic products are the way to go. Why? Because our skin reacts to what we put on it. A lot of products on shelves in today's market are full of harmful parabens, preservatives and additives. Most of which we can’t name but our skin pays the price. I suffer from eczema and by using BRWN Beauty products I know that I don’t have to worry about harmful chemicals. The ingredients are natural and that alone minimizes breakouts and rashes.
5. You are what you eat
Yes it is true you are what you eat. Think about how much food we consume in a day then read their labels and ask yourself how many chemicals did you just ingest? Do you have acne, rashes, breakouts? We have such an amazing body that it tries to restore it’s natural balance by getting rid of the foreign objects in our body by any means necessary. How do you assume it will exit the body? Through your skin, pores and body waste. What is your skin telling you?
